Real-time....like real time, as in today!
I know I'm interrupting the Serpentine blog but I'll move this out of the way once I post the second installment. I just had to post a photo of this spectacular view.
Today we visited the most amazing place, and another site I had on my 'must visit' list. We've been waiting for a calm day before we could attempt it, as we had to travel 15kms up Lake Wanaka in our tiny little Takacat to reach Mou Waho Island.
This is the 'famous in NZ', island in a lake, on an island, in a lake, on an island, in an ocean!

Explanation- The rock island is in Arethusa Pool, which is on Mou Waho Island, which is in Lake Wanaka, which is on the South Island, which is in the Pacific Ocean!
Arethusa Pool sits 200 metres above Lake Wanaka near the top of Mou Waho Island. A further 50 metre climb takes you to a bluff overlooking the lakes- which is where I took this from (click to enlarge).
Isn't it just jaw-dropping spectacular? See that last little dip in the mountains at the back on the far right? Well, that's where we came from. Wanaka town is behind that big mound centre right and that's the top of Stevenson's Arm you can see across lake between the two mountains.
I'll post more from the trip soon.
Yes jaw dropping! Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteThanks offstone, you might have to wait awhile, but it will happen, one day soon. :)
